A Russian Futurist opera from 2nd Year BA Performing Arts students at London Met, directed by Jacek Ludwig Scarso, 'Victory Over the Sun' is a re-visitation of 'Opera Victory over the Sun'. Created by Aleksej Kruchenykh, Kasimir Malevich and Mikhail Matyushin in 1913, and still surprisingly daring even by today's standards, the piece depicts the Futurians' conquest of the 10th Land - only they will need to steal the sun to get there... Absurd, bizarre and unashamedly irreverent, 'Victory over the Sun' is a land-mark in modernist theatre: at once a utopian vision of a truly futuristic world, as well as a parody of the very same idea. “All is well that begins well and has no end the world will perish but to us there is no end!"
This performance will be followed by an audience discussion with the cast and tutor/director of the piece.
